Shirley E Daley has built a 35-year career in dual sectors: finance and education. She entered the life insurance business in 1986 and worked as a Sales Representative at the then Life of Jamaica until she was offered the position of Director of Agencies at Crown Eagle Life Insurance Company. Later, she was named the Assistant Vice President Marketing until the company closed in 1997.
She is currently a branch manager at Chancellor Insurance Agency where she oversees a team of 20 individuals and works with the company to develop, support and modify the policies and procedures that guides it in fulfilling its mission. In 2015, Daley was named Branch Manager of the Year.
As an educator, she has taught English, French and Spanish in a number of countries. She currently serves as an Adjunct Faculty in Business Communication at her alma mater, The University of the West Indies, where she earned an executive master’s degree in Business Administration with an elective in Marketing.
With a third career as a volunteer, her passion to “finish well” is only surpassed by the deep desire to serve and help individuals succeed. Being a consummate builder of people in her Church, at the workplace and the wider community, she knows how to inspire them to achieve their goals.
A Toastmaster since 1990, she has held a number of high-profile leadership positions within Toastmasters International including Region Advisor and has attained the Distinguished Toastmaster designation—the highest level of educational achievement in the organization.
She says, “Toastmasters allows people to develop their leadership and communication skills, enhance competencies in their profession, become culturally adaptive and grow as a confident speaker.”
Her appointment as Region Advisor in 2022, took her across districts in the Caribbean and North and South America, where as a “working ambassador”, she guided and trained Toastmasters leaders.
She has been described as a good listener and will tell you that one of the driving forces behind developing this soft skill is that she places a high value on her relationships. Her mantra reads,
“So much of whom I am is about sharing my life with others”
