Mr. Alexander began his career in the insurance industry in London in 1976. On his return to Trinidad and Tobago he operated in the capacity of Agent, Unit Manager and Branch Manager where he was responsible for leading his Branch to achieve the Unit/Branch of the Year Award for five (5) years and also Rookie of the year on five (5) occasions. In 1995 Alvin Alexander joined ALGICO as Agency Director and was promoted to Regional Agency Director for the Caribbean Region in 2000. Mr. Alexander is With responsibility responsible for the agency operations, sales, marketing and corporate communications in Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, The Eastern Caribbean Islands, The Cayman Islands and the Netherlands Antilles. He also forms part of a matrix reporting system with responsibilities to AIG’s Senior Vice President, Marketing and Distribution. This matrix reporting requires him to contribute to policy formation at ALICO’s head office on agency matters for the ALICO world.
In 2004 his career growth continued when he was promoted to Senior Vice President and appointed as a Director on Algico’s Board of Directors. He has been a member of the local insurance industry for 23 years. A certified Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Mr. Alexander continues to share his knowledge and experience with his colleagues. This he has demonstrated through his involvement as a moderator for the Agency Managers Training Program (AMTC) which is administered to agency and branch managers on behalf of the Agency Managers Training Council, for the Life Insurance Marketing Research Institute (LIMRA) and the Life Underwriters Training Course for agents administered by LUATT for the Canadian Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (CAIFA).
In 1998 he was inducted into the LUATT Hall of Fame, an award which is presented to an Insurance professional with a track record of excellent sales and sales management experience; outstanding contributions to the Insurance Industry, a combination of Outstanding Sales and Academic Achievements, and a history of the highest Ethical Standards as endorsed by LUATT’s Ethics Committee and the Office of the Supervisor of Insurance.
