Dominica Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors
Current President

Brenton Hilaire
Formation
The Life Underwriters Association of Dominica (LUAD) was formed in 1988. As an associate member of the Life Underwriters Association of Barbados (LUAB) Shirley Allen attended the 1989 Caribbean Life Underwriters Association (CALU) now the Caribbean Association of
OF INSURANCE & FINANCIAL ADVISORS (CARAIFA), as an observer. In 1990 a formal application was made to CALU for associate member status through LUAB. Subsequent to this, Cheryl Rolle argued that consideration should be given to small associations which fell below the minimum members required to enjoy CALU’s full member status. This came against the background that the Association had to pay dues both to CALU and LUAB.
Education
LUAD started participating in the education courses by registering for the LUATC in 1991.
CARAIFA Congress
The Association hosted two CARAIFA Sales Congresses. The first congress was held in 1999. The congress director was Raleigh Steve Mellow and the theme was “Exalt Life- Hose Voye Moute”. 2005’s congress was directed by Wayne Alleyne from the Barbadian association and the theme was “A Whole New World” This congress marked the second year of the CARAIFA’s Hall of Fame. Alvin Alexander of Trinidad and Tobago and Michael Fraser from Jamaica were the inductees.
Name Change
There was a period of dormancy in 2004. That situation brought about a commitment from Cheryl Rolle to revitalize the organization and by 2005 the name change to Dominica Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (DAIFA) was effected. The composition of the Board at that time was:
