Education

ABLUA has participated in CALU/CARAIFA’s education courses and in 1998 it hosted an Educational Council Meeting.

Board of Directors

The year 2000 saw a very active association and the Board of Directors was as follows:

  • President – Novelle Williams

  • Assistant Secretary/treasurer – Monica B. Edwards
  • Public Relations – Officer Henry Williams

During that period there was a membership of 37.
The Association embarked on some restructuring in 2001 and an interim board headed by Daren Matthew-Ward was set up. The Annual General Meeting of that year passed a resolution to retain the interim board which would serve until July, 2002.

Name Change

In 2003, the Association’s name was changed to the Antigua & Barbuda Association of Insurance and Financial advisors (ABAIFA) President Daren Matthew-Ward led the Executive team of:
  • Vice President – Leon George
  • Treasurer – Trevor Vigo
  • Immediate Past President – Novelle Williams
  • Public relations Director – Crompton Walcott
  • Assistant Secretary – Leslie-Ann Oliviera
  • Director – Junie Samuel
  • Director – Denys Hoyte
During that period there was a membership of 37.

Community Service

A noteworthy community project was that of the Eugene Selkridge Memorial Award Scholarship to assist secondary school graduates with tertiary education costs.

CARAIFA Sales Congress

ABAIFA hosted a successful sales congress in 2004. That congress under the theme ‘Open the Door’ had Novelle Williams as its director. The event recorded the start of the CARAIFA Hall of Fame with the first inductees being Chester John of Grenada and Earl Moore of Jamaica.
In an effort to promote the congresses, the Association introduced a Speakers’ Forum contest. The contest would be an annual event and the winner would be their representative at the congress Speakers’ Forum.

The Association produced its first newsletter in 2004.
